Web Design for Tourism and Local Businesses in Hervey Bay

I design custom websites for Hervey Bay businesses that need to speak to both locals and visitors.
Hervey Bay’s business landscape sits somewhere between regional town and tourist hub. You’re marketing to locals who’ve lived here for decades and visitors drawn by the whales, K’gari (Fraser Island), and the relaxed coastal lifestyle.

Your website needs to work for both audiences, and it needs to work well.

I’m Lawrence, and I’ve been building websites for over 20 years, including three years living in Bundaberg where I worked with plenty of regional Queensland businesses. I understand how Fraser Coast businesses operate and what you’re up against – you’re not competing with hundreds of Brisbane companies, but you’re also not in a tiny town where everyone already knows you. You need a website that does actual work for your business.

These days I work remotely with Hervey Bay restaurants, tourism operators, marine businesses, medical practices, professional services, and hospitality venues who want websites that bring in customers instead of just sitting there because someone told them they needed one.

Some of my recent work

What Hervey Bay Businesses Actually Need

Your website has a specific job: convince tourists to book with you instead of your competitors, and convince locals that you’re the right choice for what they need. That’s harder than it sounds when half your potential customers are researching from hotel rooms on patchy wifi, and the other half are checking you out while deciding where to spend their money locally.

Template websites don’t handle this well. They’re designed for generic businesses with generic audiences in generic locations. A whale watching operator has completely different requirements than a physio clinic, which has different needs than a waterfront restaurant. Forcing them all into the same template structure doesn’t serve anyone properly.

When I build your site, I’m thinking about how your actual customers will use it. Do you need online booking for tours that fill up during peak season? Does your restaurant need to showcase menus that change with what’s fresh? Does your medical practice need an efficient way to handle new patient intake? These aren’t features you bolt on later – they’re considerations from the start.

Why Custom Design Matters Here

Hervey Bay has a weird competitive dynamic. For tourism businesses, you’re competing against operators across the Fraser Coast and anyone else offering whale watching, Fraser Island tours, or coastal experiences. For local services, you’re the main option in your area, but locals are comparing you against what they could get in Bundaberg or Maryborough if they’re willing to drive.

Either way, your website needs to make the case that you’re worth choosing. Not with flashy animations or gimmicky design, but by clearly communicating what makes you different and making it dead simple for people to take the next step – whether that’s booking online, calling your office, or finding your location.

Generic templates can’t do this because they’re not built for your specific situation. Custom design can, because it’s built around what your business actually needs to accomplish.

What It Costs

I quote projects upfront based on scope. That number doesn’t change unless you change what you want halfway through. No hourly rates, no surprise invoices. Get in touch for a quote.

Who I Work With

I build websites for Hervey Bay businesses that take what they do seriously. Tourism operators who care about the experience they provide, not just filling seats on boats. Restaurants and cafes where someone actually thinks about what they’re serving. Medical and dental practices that need to communicate competence before someone books an appointment.

Marine businesses, accommodation providers, professional services, retail stores – anyone who understands their website is an investment in their business, not an expense to minimise.

If you’re looking for the absolute cheapest option or you think a DIY platform is “good enough”, we’re not aligned. But if you want a website that properly represents your business and brings in bookings or customers, let’s talk.

What you will get

How it works

We kick off with a straightforward conversation about your business and what you actually need from a website. No lengthy discovery sessions or corporate questionnaires – just a chat about your customers, your goals, and what’s not working with your current setup. Then I design everything in Figma so you see the full layout before I build anything. We iterate on the design until it’s right, then I develop it in WordPress and handle all the copywriting. Most Hervey Bay projects wrap up in 4-6 weeks from start to launch.

Once your site goes live, I don’t vanish. I’ll train you on updating basic content like prices, hours, or seasonal information. For technical issues, booking system problems, or when you want to add new features, I’m still available. Most tourism and hospitality clients set up ongoing maintenance so they’ve got support when they need it during busy season – but you can also just contact me as needed. Either way works.

Working Remotely With Fraser Coast Businesses

I’m based on the Sunshine Coast but work with Hervey Bay and Fraser Coast businesses regularly. Everything happens remotely – we chat over Zoom or phone, I share designs through Figma or Adobe XD, and we handle communication via email or Slack. You get direct access to me throughout the project without needing to schedule office visits.

Most clients prefer this anyway. No commute time, no trying to fit meetings into busy schedules, and you’re not paying for my travel. We collaborate when it matters and you get on with running your business the rest of the time.

What some of my clients have said...

The website looks bloody amazing. I love it! You have captured our vibe exactly. So happy with it, thanks so much.

We recently had a new web site built by Lawrence and found the process to be very smooth and efficient. It was pleasant to deal with someone who had a very good understanding of what we wanted and he did an excellent job in a very timely manner. All in all, a pleasant experience from beginning to end. Thank you Lawrence.

Lawrie continues to impress with his design and creativity, building the Custom Analytics website very quickly with minimal contribution except for some written content. The brief was for something a ‘bit different’ and Lawrie was able to create something unique while retaining core attributes of quality & expertise which was really impressive. He is super easy to deal with and nothing is ever a problem. We would have no hesitation in recommending Lawrie for his web services. A first-class operator who also represents exceptional value for money.

Questions Hervey Bay Businesses Ask

Most tourism operators need their site to work hardest during whale season and Fraser Island peak times. I build sites that handle traffic spikes, showcase availability clearly, and make booking fast and simple when people are ready to commit. We can also integrate dynamic pricing or seasonal content if that’s relevant to your business.

I can build that in. Hervey Bay gets international tourists, and if you’re targeting specific markets, having key pages in their language helps. It’s more complex than a basic site, but it’s definitely doable.

Usually, yeah. If you’re already using a specific booking platform and want to keep it, I can integrate it into your new site properly so it doesn’t look like a clunky add-on. If you’re starting fresh, I can recommend systems that work well for your industry.

That’s what ongoing maintenance is for. Most tourism operators set this up specifically so they can get help quickly when they need it without waiting in a queue. You can message me about urgent issues and they get handled fast.

Your site will be functional and professional from launch day. SEO takes 2-3 months to build momentum – anyone promising instant rankings is lying. But if you’re running ads or have existing traffic, you should see conversion improvements immediately if your old site was underperforming.

You can handle basic updates – changing text, swapping photos, updating menus or prices. I’ll show you how during training. For bigger changes or technical stuff, I’m available either through ongoing maintenance or as-needed. Most clients do a bit of both.

Ready to Build Something Better?

Tell me about your Hervey Bay business and what you need from a website. If you’ve got a current site, send me the link so I can see what we’re working with. I’ll have an honest look and let you know whether I think we’re a good fit.

No obligation, no sales pressure, no corporate pitch. Just a straightforward conversation about what’s possible.
