Overview
ONIIS is an RPEQ-certified electrical engineering practice working across industrial, mining and renewable infrastructure in Queensland. The brief was to turn a highly technical, compliance-heavy offering — switchboard design, protection relay settings, BESS grid connection reports — into a site that reads as credible to the people who actually commission this work: developers, project managers and utilities, not consumers. The core design challenge was hierarchy, not decoration: making a huge amount of technical depth scannable rather than overwhelming.
Design approach
Hero and tone. A wide dusk photograph of wind turbines under a navy gradient sets a calm, infrastructure-at-scale mood rather than a hard-hat cliché. A single amber-orange accent is introduced here and reused consistently across every button, heading underline and sector tile — a clear “this is actionable” signal throughout the site.
Content structure. The page builds in layers rather than one long list: a short intro, an About section with credentials as icon-led checklists, a compliance sidebar speaking directly to clients who already know the jargon, a dark full-bleed technical band as a proof point, then a closing three-column breakdown that repeats the offering at a more granular level. This repetition is deliberate — technical buyers often scan for their specific need rather than reading linearly.
Circular image treatment. A large circular-masked photo with an orange gradient bleed breaks up an otherwise grid-heavy layout and echoes the circular logomark in the header.
Challenges
Density vs. legibility. Fitting genuinely dense content — AutoCAD schematics, earthing modelling, harmonics analysis — into something scannable was the hardest problem. Consistent tick-icon bullets throughout give the eye a repeating anchor to scan down rather than read as prose.
Repetition without fatigue. Because the closing service breakdown overlaps heavily with earlier sections, varying the format each time (icon tiles → dark band → photo cards) kept the page from feeling padded.
Trust signals for a technical audience. No lifestyle imagery needed — credentials (RPEQ, NER, AS/NZS compliance) are treated as first-class content, bolded and icon-flagged, rather than buried in copy.
Dark/light balance. Alternating white sections with a dark power-systems band and dark footer meant the same orange accent had to stay legible against both, without introducing a second colour.
Outcome
Credibility markers front-load the page for time-poor decision-makers, while technical depth unfolds progressively for anyone doing due diligence — held together by a tight, consistent colour and iconography system.
